Each year The Bank of Canada has eight “fixed” or pre-specified dates for announcing any changes to the official interest rate it uses to implement monetary policy—the rate of interest it charges on short-term loans to financial institutions. Starting in January 2013, the Bank of Canada will also begin publishing its quarterly Monetary Policy Report concurrently with its January, April, July, and October rate announcements. The standard day for publication of all scheduled rate announcements and MPRs will be on a Wednesday.
