British Columbia’s property assessments are mailed out to all homeowners in early January. Property taxes can be the single largest annual operating expense for both landlords and homeowners. Homeowner’s then have until Thursday, January 31 at 11:59 p.m. PST. to file a notice of complaint (appeal) to the Property Assessment Review Panel.
According to WesTech Appraisal Services when reviewing your Property Assessment notice, the two main issues owners should consider if they plan on appealing are the following:
It’s worth noting that substantial property tax savings can be achieved if you feel your assessment was too high and you successfully appeal your assessment.
If you feel your assessment is too high, WesTech Appraisal Services can help with your property assessment appeal by providing an accurate estimate of value to assist you in your appeal with the Property Assessment Appeal Board.
WesTech has told me they are expecting that there may be more assessment appeals this year given the softened market. If you think your BC assessment is unreasonable and wish to appeal you can contact WesTech Appraisal Services for more information on having your home appraised at 604-986-2722.
