Google Places allows you to create free listings so when potential customers search Maps for local information, they’ll find your business: your address, hours of operation, even photos of your storefront. I encourage all business owners to create their listings as it is a great way to receive exposure to potential clients.
A Google Places listing also allows past clients to leave a review of your business in the form of a star rating or written comment. With more positive reviews and recommendations your listing will appear higher in Google search results.
I have recently learned about a local mortgage broker who is going around to many other mortgage professionals and giving them lower than average reviews on their Google Places listings. They are doing this in the hopes of increasing their own exposure, but in the end, they are also demeaning our industry and potentially damaging those of us who strive for excellence in our field.
My own Google Places Listing was also given a false review by this person.
Although it would be very easy to call this person out publicly for their absolute disregard for our profession, I have decided the best way to go about it is to instead ask my trusted business associates and past clients to review my services honestly.
If we have had business dealings together I would like to ask you to visit my Google Places Listing and provide an honest review.
Thank you for your time,
