I had the opportunity to attend the Vancouver Golf Tour Media Day hosted by Jeff Ciecko of CK Golf Solutions this past week at the beautiful Langara Golf Course in Vancouver. The event was an opportunity for local news media, bloggers and those involved in Vancouver’s Social Media scene to learn more about the upcoming Vancouver Golf Tour and Vancouver’s great public golf courses.
I haven’t had the opportunity to play golf at any of the Vancouver public courses prior to this event so I welcomed the chance to play a round in the morning with Marc Smith (Amuse Events), Mike West (MousePad Publishing) and Anthony Agtarap (Engineered Bodies). It was definitely a great day to be out on the golf course.
During the morning press conference The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and Vancouver Parks Golf along with the Vancouver Golf Tour announced the details of the upcoming 2011 $75,000 Vancouver City Open. Some format changes have been made for the 2012 Championship. On August 31st the Augusta Charity Pro-Am presented by TIFOSI Eyewear will be conducted at Fraserview Golf Course and feature four amateurs playing with a professional from either the Vancouver Golf Tour or the Canadian Tour. The teams will have the best two scores out of five count on each hole. The Pro-Am will benefit the First Tee of Greater Vancouver YMCA.
Practice rounds for the Championship will be played on September 1st with the 54 hole stroke play Championship beginning on September 2nd. Competitors will rotate between McCleery and Langara golf courses for the first two rounds, with a cut coming after 36 holes. The final round will be completed at Fraserview Golf Course on Sunday September 4th beginning at 7:30 am with the tournament leaders expected to tee off at approximately 11:00 am to determine the 2011 Paine Edmonds Vancouver City Open Champion.
“It is such a great opportunity to again host the Vancouver City Open back in Vancouver. We are excited to be playing Fraserview, McCleery and Langara as we believe it will enhance our event,” said Fraser Mulholland, Commissioner of the Vancouver Golf Tour. “With some new changes in the format we expect this event will be the best yet.”
Among the participants confirmed include Vancouver Golf Tour’s top Order of Merit player Bryn Parry along with Phil Jonas of McCleery, Ryan Williams and Dave Zibrink. Volunteer opportunities for the Vancouver Open are available for all golf enthusiasts.
